Conventional medical journals are typically published in hard copy format,resulting in challenges such as lengthy publication cycles,sluggish manual review procedures,and restricted distribution in terms of range and formats.Currently,medical journal publishing is experiencing a phase of integration between traditional and emerging media,with digital technology being preliminarily applied to various aspects of medical journal publishing,such as content collection,production,online publication,and content distribution.With the emergence of general artificial intelligence(AI),converged media and AI large models have had a profound impact on the entire process of medical journal publishing.Digital publishing services are becoming more platform-based,content is becoming more structured,business processes are becoming more intelligent,and integration is becoming a new trend.The powerful computing capabilities of AI large models offer many opportunities for the digital transformation of medical academic publishing,such as improving authors'writing abilities,assisting review experts in reviewing manuscripts,optimizing editing,proofreading,and publishing processes.However,AI large models also bring many challenges to digital publishing of medical journals,such as increased difficulty in editing due to AI involvement in creation,the need to strengthen the training of talents for publishing integration,potential copyright infringement and guidance issues,issues related to authorship attribution and medical ethics,and increased requirements for digital production technology.To address these opportunities and challenges,this article proposes several strategies for the digital transformation of medical academic publishing,such as enhancing service awareness for authors and readers,effective communication with authors and review experts,embracing AI technology,and actively responding to AI.In conclusion,in the context of the converged media era,improving the quality of medical journal publication is a long and arduous task.It is essential to always focus on content,rely on technology,seize the opportunity for integration,enhance academic communication effectiveness,and increase the academic influence of journals.
