A Brief Discussion on Characters with Special Pronunciation in Shandong Dialect
There are a certain number of characters with special pronunciation in various dialects that do not conform to the rules of phonetic evolution,and the same applies to Shandong dialect.According to the survey data in the ShandongshengZhi—FangyanZhi(《山东省志·方言志》),the widely distributed special pronunciation characters in Shandong dialect account for about 6%of the surveyed word count.On the basis of clarifying the recognition standards for special pronunciation characters,this article classifies the selected special characters into several catogories by their pronunciations.Then,it focus on analyzing the reasons for its formation,mainly in the following aspects:1.Relation with the origins of ancient sounds,which includes three situations:A.the rhyme books in the Qieyun(《切韵》)system are not included,thus not in line with the ancient sound status of the text;B.the meaning and form of later writing are the same as ancient writing,therefore,it do not match the status of ancient phonetics;C.later words borrowed ancient characters with similar pronunciations,which do not match the ancient sounds.2.The influence of glyphs,this type includes two situations:first,rare characters are pronounced based on the phonetic symbols of phonetic characters;The second is that the pronunciations of polyphonic characters is based on commonly used pronunciations.3.Infectious effect.4.Avoiding using polyphonic characters.5.Sandhi.6.The mutual influence between syllables.7.The inheritance of ancient dialects.In addition,further research is needed to investigate the causes of the formation of some special pronunciations.
