Duren Jing(《度人经》)is an important scripture of the Lingbao School of Daoism from the late Eastern Jin dynasty,which holds significant value for the study of medieval Daoist history and medieval Chinese language.There are numerous versions of this scripture,with diverse and complex textual variants,primarily categorized into three types:philological textual variants,orthographic textual variants,and rhetorical variants.The study systematically examines and categorizes these textual variants,scrutinizing 18 significant variants,discerning their authenticity,and analyzing their intercharacter and semantic relationships.On this basis,it states the issues in textual criticism,editing,and interpretation of Duren Jing(《度人经》).thereby providing reliable materials for the study of Daoist canonical language and the compilation of Daoist scriptures.
