On the Compositional Properties of Chinese Heteromorphic Words
Examining the properties of a category of objects and defining the scope of the nature of those objects can be analyzed in terms of the typological composition and generative mechanisms of the category.Chinese heteromorphic words are a kind of linguistic phenomenon with various types and complex generative mechanisms, and so far the academic community is not unanimous in recognizing the scope of their nature. The types of Chinese heteromorphic words should be viewed with the concepts of word diversity, ancient and modern differences, and equivalence of senses. The generation of Chinese heteromorphic words is the result of the accumulation of the historical development of the Chinese language, and it is the result of the contradiction between the nature and characteristics of Chinese characters and the function of Chinese character writing, the contradiction between the statute of Chinese character writing and the various possibilities, and the contradiction between the inheritance of Chinese character writing and people's arbitrariness and creativity in the use of Chinese characters. Therefore, the organization and standardization of Chinese heteromorphic words can help and guide people's writing choices, but cannot fundamentally eliminate their existence.
