An Empirical Study on the Vocabulary Richness of Japanese Chinese Learners'Key Word Writing
Based on the empirical data collected from the Japanese Chinese learners'key word writing texts produced in New HSK—5 Tests, this essay draws on the framework of lexical richness, analyses lexical richness on four dimensions including lexical diversity, lexical complexity, lexical density and lexical errors, and explores the interaction between lexical richness and three variables including writers'gender and their proficiency level,as well as test forms. The study shows that differences in writers'gender and different writing levels affect lexical diversity while different test forms affect complexity and errors.Lexical diversity has significant effect on the achievement in writing tests, with the total number of tokes as an effective predicator of text quality in key word writing. However, there will be different quality predicators when the length of writing varies. Therefore, teachers can improve student performance in key word writing by using skills such as prolonged writing.
