Teaching Modern Chinese Abbreviations in International Chinese Language Education
In light of the evolving situation,distinct features,and profound implications of International Chinese Language Education in the new era,the significance of modern Chinese abbreviations in this domain is manifested primarily in three dimensions:enhancing the efficiency of Chinese vocabulary acquisition,deepening comprehension of Chinese culture,and fostering learners'ability to think in Chinese.Upon examination of Chinese language textbooks both domestically and internationally,it becomes evident that abbreviation teaching has not been incorporated into the educational syllabus,nor have specific abbreviation knowledge points or glossaries been established.Furthermore,there is a dearth of dedicated practice exercises designed for abbreviations.To address these issues,we propose the following recommendations for abbreviation teaching in International Chinese Language Education:textbooks should incorporate additional abbreviation exercises,develop a comprehensive abbreviation glossary based on corpus data,and implement a diverse range of abbreviation-focused teaching activities.
