A Study on Graphics and Texts in Chinese Textbooks for Traditional Chinese Medicine Based on Intersemiotic Complementarity
In the context of the increasingly prominent multimodal and three-dimensional trend in international Chinese textbooks, the importance of multimodal discourse analysis in textbooks has gradually emerged. The theory of intersemiotic complementarity focuses on how symbolic information from different modes interacts in discourse and serves as an important tool for multimodal discourse analysis.Based on this theoretical framework, this paper conducts a macro-description and micro-analysis of the graphic and text modes in Chinese textbooks for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)from different eras and course types. The investigation reveals that the graphic and text modes in TCM Chinese textbooks are relatively diverse in form overall, but they are more concentrated in specific textbooks;the interaction between graphic and text symbols is high, but there is still room for improvement in the three dimensions of consistency, compatibility, and prominence;at the same time, there are also a few redundant and erroneous graphic and text symbols. In response to the main issues in graphic and text modes in TCM Chinese textbooks,it is suggested that compilers should pool interdisciplinary expertise, consider the cultural background differences of users, and highlight the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine.
