Application of Yttrium-based Heavy Rare Earth in Vermicular Graphite Iron Brake Drum
An introduction was made on the technical requirements of vermicular graphite iron, detailed description was given to the wire injection-related parameters setting and process control of using cerium-based light rare earth wire to produce brake drum and problem of vermicularizing degeneration.Under the condition of other chemical compositions being basically unchanged, through using Y-based heavy RE having more strong vermicularizing effect and anti-degeneration capacity to replace Ce-based light RE,made the metallurgical structure to meet requirements, graphite was mainly vermicular shape, vermicularizing rate≥50%,no flake graphite, matrix structure being mainly pearlite+ferrite, free carbide ≤ 1%,free carbide+phosphide eutectic≤4%,and the mechanical properties being qualified.
