Efficacy of therapy for tonifying kidney and activating blood combined with acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis and its influence on knee function and quality of life
Objective It is to observe the clinical effect of therapy for tonifying kidney and activating blood combined with acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis and its influence on knee function and quality of life.Methods A total of 128 pa-tients with knee osteoarthritis with syndrome of kidney deficiency and blood stasis treated in Sichuan Orthopaedic Hospital from January 2021 to March 2023 were included in this study.They were divided into traditional Chinese and western medi-cine group and control group by random number table method,with 64 cases in each group.The control group was treated with meloxicam tablets,glucosamine hydrochloride capsules and sodium hyaluronate injection.On the basis of the treatment of the control group,the traditional Chinese and western medicine group was treated with therapy for tonifying kidney and activating blood combined with acupuncture.Both groups were treated for 1 month,and 2 cases fell off in each group during the treatment.The traditional Chinese medical syndrome scores,WOMAC scores,pain VAS scores,SF-36 scores,joint range of motion,walking speed,and step length before and after treatment were compared between the two groups,and the clinical efficacy and occurrence of adverse reactions of the two groups were calculated.Results The traditional Chinese medical syndrome scores,WOMAC scores,pain VAS scores of patients in the two groups were significantly decreased(all P<0.05),while their SF-36 scores,joint motion,walking speed and step length were significantly increased after treat-ment(all P<0.05),and the improvements of these indexes in the traditional Chinese and western medicine group were all significantly better than those in the control group(all P<0.05).The total effective rate of treatment in the traditional Chinese and western medicine group was significantly higher than that in the control group[96.77%(60/62)vs.87.10%(54/62),P<0.05],the incidence rates of adverse reactions in patients of the two groups were lower(2 cases in the con-trol group and 3 cases in the traditional Chinese and western medicine group),the difference was not significant between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The therapy for tonifying kidney and activating blood combined with acupuncture is significantly effective in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis,it can significantly alleviate pain and related symptoms,im-prove function of knee joint and quality of life with good safety.
