Correlation of Chinese medicine syndromes with clinical indicators in metabolic syndrome
Objective It is to explore the relationship between the characteristics of Chinese medicine syndromes and western clinical indicators in patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods The data of 314 patients who met the diagnostic criteria of metabolic syndrome treated in the Department of Endocrinology,Department of Hypertension and Department of Geriatrics of Jinan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2019 to June 2022 were collected, and the pa-tients were divided into 8 types of syndromes:hyperactive liver fire,Yin deficiency with Yang hyperacitivity,phlegm-dampness exuberance and congestion,liver-kidney Yin deficiency,Yin-Yang deficiency,Qi-Yin deficiency, failing trans-portation due to spleen deficiency, and Qi stagnation and blood stasis, and the distribution of each type was recorded;the body mass index(BMI),waist circumference, hip circumference, and the levels of blood pressure[systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP)],blood lipids[(total cholesterol(TC),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),triacylglycerol(TG),and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)],fasting glucose, glycosylated hemo-globin,insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR),hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),homocysteine(Hcy),and blood uric acid of the patients of different syndrome type were compared, the relationship between the differentiation syn-drome types and clinically relevant indicators. Results There were93 cases of Qi-Yin deficiency(29.62%),60 cases of liver-kidney Yin deficiency(19.11%),51 cases of Yin deficiency with Yang hyperacitivity(16.24%),45 cases of phlegm-dampness exuberance and congestion(14.33%),26 cases of failing transportation due to spleen deficiency(8.28%),21 cases of hyperactive liver fire(6.69%),11 cases of Yin-Yang deficiency(3.50%),and 7 cases of Qi stagnation and blood stasis(2.23%).The differences in BMI,waist circumference, hip circumference, and SBP among patients of each syndrome were statistically significant(all P<0.05);Qi-Yin deficiency,liver-kidney Yin deficiency,Yin deficiency with Yang hyperacitivity, and phlegm-dampness exuberance and congestion were corrleated with BMI,waist circ-umference,blood uric acid,SBP and HOMA-IR.Conclusion The traditional Chinese medical syndromes of metabolic syn-drome has different correlations with clinical indicators, and treatment determination based on syndrome differentiation can provide relevant theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic syndrome.
