Modified Decoction for invigorating Yang for recuperation combined with acupuncture bloodletting on peripheral neurotoxicity after chemotherapy with oxaliplatin
Objective It is to observe the efficacy of modified Decoction for invigorating Yang for recuperation com-bined with acupuncture bloodletting on peripheral neurotoxicity in the patients after chemotherapy with oxaliplatin and its in-fluence on peripheral nerve conduction velocity. Methods Eighty-six patients with peripheral neurotoxicity after chemother-apy with oxaliplatin treated in the Cancer Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing University from January to September 2023 were randomly divided into two groups, with 43 cases in each group. The control group was treated with mecobalamin tablets a-lone,while the treatment group was treated with modified Decoction for invigorating Yang for recuperation by oral adminis-tration combined with acupuncture bloodletting at Shixuan acupoints and 12 well acupunctures of the foot. Both groups were treated for 28 days. The peripheral neurotoxicity grading,Karnofsky functional status ( KPS) score, motor nerve conduction velocity ( MNCV) and sensory nerve conduction velocity ( SNCV) of median nerve and common peroneal nerve before and after treatment, peripheral neurotoxicity efficacy after 28 days of treatment and the occurrence of adverse reactions during the treatment period were observed and compared between the two groups. Results The percentages of patients with periph-eral neurotoxicity grades 0 and 1 were significantly higher than those before treatment in both groups (all P<0.05),and the percentages of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group (all P<0.05).The KPS scores of both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (both P<0.05),and the treatment group was significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05).The MNCV and SNCV of the two groups were significantly faster than those before treatment (all P<0.05),and the treatment groups was significantly faster than the control group (P<0.05).The total effective rate of treatment of peripheral neurotoxicity in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group[79.07% (34/43) VS.46.51% (20/43),P<0.05].Conclusion Modified Decoction for in-vigorating Yang for recuperation combined with acupuncture bloodletting can not only reduce the grade of peripheral neuro-toxicity and protect nerves, but also effectively improve the symptoms and quality of life with good safety in the treatment of patients with peripheral neurotoxicity after chemotherapy with oxaliplatin.
