The Mechanism and Effect of New Infrastructure Investment Enabling the Upgrading of Consumption Structure
Accelerating the upgrading of residents'consumption structure is an urgent requirement for unblocking China's"dual circulation"new development pattern and realizing high-quality economic development. This paper analyzes the impact and mechanism of new infrastructure investment on the upgrading of consumption structure from the perspective of demand-side and supply-side driving. The results show that:(1)New infrastructure investment can significantly promote the upgrading of China's residents'consumption structure.(2)The impact of new infrastructure investment on the upgrading of consumption structure is heterogeneous due to the type of new infrastructure, regional environment and the degree of segmentation of consumer goods market.Information infrastructure, innovation infrastructure and integration infrastructure not only have heterogeneity in the process of enabling the upgrading of consumption structure, but also have heterogeneity in different regions and provinces with different degrees of segmentation of consumer goods market.(3)The mechanism test results shou that new infrastructure investment can increase household income on the demand-side and stimulate R&D and innovation on the supply-side,thus enabling the upgrading of consumption structure. The mechanism effect is also heterogeneous due to the different regional environment and the degree of segmentation of consumer goods market. It is necessary to rationally plan new infrastructure investment, strengthen regional cooperation and innovation cultivation, and focus on the positive impact of new infrastructure on the upgrading of consumption structure.
