Experimental study on ignition and combustion characteristics of cotton soaked with machine oil
Three fire source of fire, cigarette and heat radiation were set to study the effects of the machine oil content on the ignition characteristics of cotton under the different fire source condition.Impacts of the machine oil content and water content on the combustion characteristics of cotton under the fire were also examined. The heat radiation ignition experiment was carried out by cone calorimeter with heat radiation intensity of 25,30,35 and 40 kW/m2.The experiment results showed that the ignition time of cotton decreased under the fire and heat radiation with the increase of machine oil content, and the effect under the cigarette fire condition was small. The ignition time of cotton by fire was shorted by nearly a half when the content of machine oil was 45%.The duration of combustion flows under the fire condition firstly increased and then decreased, the residue weight firstly decreased slowly and then decreased sharply finally trended to be constant. For the cotton with machine oil content of 29%,the larger water content of cotton, the more difficult to be ignited, and cotton cannot be ignited when the content of water in cotton was 13%.
