Progress in the Central Nervous System Transmission Circuit of Chemical Pruritus
Itch is a complex sensation that includes sensory, emotional, and motivational components. Its con-duction and processing involve multiple circuits in the spinal cord and brain. This primarily includes the sensation being projected from the spinal cord to various brain regions with each region participating in the processing of dif-ferent aspects of the itch sensation, the regulation of descending itch signals and the emotional and motivational re-sponses to itch.Gaining a deeper understanding of the neural circuitry of itch can be conducive to the future re-search on the mechanisms of itch and guide the development of clinical treatment strategies.
