Misdiagnosis of Non-Alcoholic Wernicke Encephalopathy as Psychogenic Vomiting:A Case Report
Wernicke's encephalopathy is a potentially fatal neurological disease caused by a severe deficiency of thiamine(vitamin B1).Its clinical manifestations are diverse and lack specificity.In psychiatric inpatients,misdiagnosis is often missed due to the concealment of psychiatric symptoms.A case of delayed treatment due to re-peated intermittent vomiting misdiagnosed as psychogenic vomiting in a patient with epileptic psychosis and its diag-nosis and treatment process were retrospectively analyzed.The main causes of misdiagnosis in the background of primary psychiatric department were revealed,and corresponding suggestions for diagnosis and improvement were put forward.It is suggested to strengthen multidisciplinary consultation and master the risk factors of thiamine defi-ciency,dynamic assessment,early intervention and standardized treatment to improve the prognosis of patients.
