Review and Prospect of the Study on Loulan Documents
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, many explorers came to Xinjiang to explore, grabbed and carried away a great amount of relics including wooden slips and paper excavated from the ru-ins of the ancient city of Loulan, which attracted widespread attention from domestic and foreign academic circles. After 2000,the research on Loulan documents is still flourishing, mainly focusing on calligraphy and history. In terms of calligraphy, academic circles not only examine the artistic value of Loulan documents, but also place them in a long-term historical perspective of calligraphy and Chinese characters. In terms of history, academic circles at-tach great importance to the study of"document groups"in Loulan documents, and the relationship between Loulan documents and other written documents,as well as historical books and archaeological excavations. The historical de-tails of the Chief Office in the Western Regions and the traffic conditions in the Western Regions between the Han and Jin Dynasties presented in the Loulan documents will remain to be the focus of related researches in the future.
