An Inquiry into the Philosophical Implications of the Idea of Form
This paper seeks to bring to light the original connection between form and reason, which stemmed from the formalization of reason in the theory of Plato. It is held that there are two kinds of ideal beauty that are highly es-teemed by the Western mind:one is concerned with the harmony of beauty originating from the self-agglomerative nature of reason;the other indicates the construction of a world of transcendentally pure form that unites truth,good-ness and beauty. The extremely great energies of form might be considered in the following two aspects:firstly, the idea of form offers profound ontological, epistemological and axiological grounds for analyzing mutual relations be-tween the interpretation of teleology and the concept of beauty;secondly, the act of form-bestowal,abstraction and expression,in reality,is the externalization of the basic identity of reason. From the above arguments,it may come to a conclusion that the idea of reason-form will not end up with the anti-traditional wave of modern society and cul-ture,because the conflicts between reason-form and irrationality essentially constitute the symptom of resolving the contradictions between nature and civilization.
