On Xinjiang Uyghur Ethnic Culture and the Formation of"Carnivalized"Language Style in Wang Meng's Novels
From the 1960s to the 1980s,Wang Meng had lived in Xinjiang for 16 years. He gained insights into the core of multi-ethnic culture through his proficiency in the Uyghur language. This experience became Wang Meng's"new starting point for thought and literary creation"in the new period. To some extent, the expansion of Wang Meng's creative themes in the new period and the formation of new language styles are inseparable from his"experi-ence in Xinjiang",especially his experience of Uyghur language and culture. For example,in"The Scenery Here",Wang Meng presented a relatively obvious Chinese narration featuring bilingual thinking in Chinese and Uyghur lan-guages,making his novel language show the phenomenon of"multiple voices".This experience laid a foundation for the formation of his"carnivalized"language style.
