Discovery and Significance of the Wengul Lead-Zinc Deposit in the Altun Region
The Altun region is an important lead-zinc mineralization prospect in China, and known lead-zinc deposits are mainly distributed in the Early Paleozoic Ordovician strata of the eastern section of Altun. The Wengu'er lead-zinc de-posit is an important newly discovered ore deposit in the Altun region. Two ore bodies have been preliminarily delineat-ed,with a length of 1820-2742 meters and a thickness of 2.03-59.87 meters,Zn grade ranges from 1.39%to 47.58%,The Pb grade ranges from 0.84%to 6.11%,and it is preliminarily speculated that the lead-zinc deposit is large to ultra large. The ore body is located in the second and third sections of the Jinyanshan Formation of the Jixian system, mainly com-posed of dolomite, mud crystal dolomite, etc. The main minerals are smithsonite and lead ore, followed by pyrite and chalcopyrite, with a small amount of primary sphalerite and galena. It is preliminarily inferred that it is an MVT type lead zinc deposit. The discovery of the Wengu'er lead-zinc deposit fills the gap in the exploration of lead-zinc deposits in the pre Cambrian metamorphic basement of the Altun area, and has important indicative significance for regional lead-zinc deposit exploration.
