Sedimentary Characteristics,Source Analysis and Tectonic Significance of the Jiangbasitao Formation in the Wulungu Area
The Wulungu are in Xinjiang belongs to the ancient Paleo Asian Ocean tectonic domain. It is a key area for studying the time limit and process of orogeny in Central Asia.Carboniferous is an important transformation period in the evolution of the Paleo Asian Ocean from subduction to closure. The sedimentation of the Lower Carboniferous Jiang-baitao Formation records the transition process from marine to terrestrial facies in the Wulunggu area.In this paper, based on the field Geological survey and drilling data analysis, combined with the geochemical characteristics, element analysis and other experimental test results of the dark mudstone of the Jiangbasitao Formation, the inner area of Wulun-gu depression mainly develops shallow sea facies and semi deep sea facies deposits in deep water reducing environment in the Wulungu area. The wave in the northern and southern edge areas have become shallower, mainly in sedimentary environments such as coastal facies, fan delta facies, submarine turbidite fan facies and restricted bay facies.According to the analysis of material sources, there are significant differences in the provenance of the dark mudstone series of the Jiangbasidao Formation in the northern and southern parts of the Wulungu region. In early Carboniferous, the Wulungu island arc uplifted and the material sources separated. The northern material sources are mainly composed of mafic/felsic mixture and andesite, mainly from Altay and Sawuer island arc.The southern material sources are mainly felsic-neutral volcanic material, mainly from the Karamaili region and its southern region.During the formation of the Jiangbaitao For-mation in the late Early Carboniferous, the Wulungu island arc was formed. The Wulungu region is located in the tecton-ic environment of active continental margin island arc.The structure controls the distribution of sedimentation.
