Is Industry and Talent Truly Symbiotic and Mutually Beneficial—Evidence from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
Theoretically, the industry and talent development are not independent,on the contrary, the two influence each other, and co-develop to some extent.Based on the perspective of industrial structure and talent agglomeration, this paper empirically explores the relationships between industry and talent in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the results generally support the theoretical conclusion.First of all, there is a strong correlation between the levels of industrial structural optimization and talent agglomeration, and highly educated talents in the local industries of the Pearl River Delta Region. In the past ten years, the degree of optimization of the industrial structure and the talent agglomeration level(especially highly educated talents)of the Pearl River Delta Region have been increasing. The difference is that the former increases faster than the latter.Secondly, the talent agglomeration in the Pearl River Delta Region has a significant role in driving the optimization and upgrading the structure of local industry, however, the direct impact of the agglomeration of highly educated talents on the optimization level of the local industrial structure is not significant, but positively affects the optimization level of the industrial structure by promoting the construction of national level platforms of laboratories. The findings of this paper provide a theoretical ground for policymakers in judging the degree of integration of industry and talent development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
