The Impact of Urban Technological Structure Characteristics on Economic Resilience:Empirical Evidence from 282 Citites in China
Technological innovation is the fundamental driving force for development,as well as a magic weapon for enhancing urban resilience, resolving risks, and adapting to transformation. It has a significant impact on achieving high-quality development in cities. This article analyzes the technological structure characteristics of Chinese cities from three dimensions:technological relevance, technological complexity, and technological diversity;measures urban economic resilience from three dimensions:resistance and resilience, response and adaptability, evolution and transformation;and based on panel data from 282 prefecture level and above cities in China from 2011 to 2020,constructs a two-way fixed effects regression model to empirically test the impact of urban technological structure characteristics on urban economic resilience development. The results show that:The technological structure characteristics such as technological relevance, technological complexity, and technological diversity all have a significant promoting effect on the resilience of urban economy.Heterogeneity studies indicate that the economic resilience relies of eastern cities more on technological complexity and technological diversity, with the role of technological correlation not being significant; The weak potential for technological innovation in the western cities and the lack of technological diversity have limited the improvement of urban economic resilience. In the cities with high levels of technological support, the increase in technological complexity and the expansion of technological diversity significantly promote the improvement of economic resilience, while in the cities with low levels of technological support, all three technological structural characteristics can significantly enhance their economic resilience. The findings of this article has important guiding significance for urban technological innovation layout and economic resilience development.
