An Analysis of Spatial Evolution in the Location Choices of Specialized and Sophisticated"Little Giant"Enterprises:A Case Study of Guangdong Province
specialized and sophisticated"Little Giant"enterprises play a crucial role in supporting high-level technological self-reliance and self-strengthening,as well as enhancing the resilience of industrial and supply chains.Analyzing the spatial evolution characteristics and driving factors of their location choices is significant for accelerating new industrialization, fostering new-quality productivity, and improving a modernized industrial system. This study focuses on 1,525 specialized and sophisticated"Little Giant"enterprises in Guangdong, recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.Utilizing ArcGIS software, the study examines their spatial location behavior.Based on this, the study employs a geographic detector model to analyze the driving factors behind these location choices. The findings are as follows:(1)The spatial clustering effect of specialized and sophisticated"Little Giant"enterprises in Guangdong is quite pronounced, with significant concentrations in cities such as Shenzhen,Dongguan, and Guangzhou, which have a strong industrial base and high manufacturing levels.(2)During the study period, there were observable changes in the clustering regions and patterns of specialized and sophisticated"Little Giant"enterprises. The clustering intensity in Guangzhou and Shenzhen has increased, exhibiting a distinct"core-periphery"pattern,while the clustering intensity in the eastern, western, and northern regions of Guangdong has gradually decreased, with medium-density areas gradually disappearing.(3)The standard deviation ellipse's flattening rate shows a fluctuating downward trend, and the centroid of the standard deviation ellipse has been active along the"Shenzhen-Dongguan"axis,with a tendency to shift towards Guangzhou.(4)The location choices of specialized and sophisticated"Little Giant"enterprises in Guangdong are influenced by multiple driving factors, among which the number of R&D personnel, digital infrastructure, research investment, innovation level, and the health index of government-business relations have strong explanatory power.Based on the findings,it is recommended to further strengthen the gradient cultivation mechanism for SMEs,enhance policy support for"innovation, funding, and talent,"and promote digital transformation and upgrading to foster the development of specialized and sophisticated"Little Giant"enterprises.
