Characteristics of Biomass and Root-Shoot Ratio of Different Grassland Types in Xinjiang
To clarify the relationship between the root system characteristics and the aboveground/below-ground biomass distribution of different grassland types.Biomass data from Xinjiang's nine major grass-land types in July of each year from 2019 to 2023 were collected and root-shoot ratios quantified by compa-ring aboveground/belowground biomass differences among grassland types to reveal patterns and charac-teristics of biomass allocation. The results showed that the mean value of lowland meadow aboveground biomass was as high as 169.22 g/m2,followed by montane meadow aboveground biomass(163.43 g/m2),while the mean value of alpine steppe, temperate steppe desert, temperate desert, and temperate desert steppe aboveground biomass was lower than 60 g/m2.Additionally,the value of belowground biomass of each grassland type was the highest in the surface soil layer(0-5 cm)and gradually decreased as the soil depth increased.Further research showed that the root system of grasslands was primarily concentrated in soil depths of 0-50 cm,accounting for more than 77%of the total. The mean root-shoot ratio values ranged from 10.55 to 40.40 for each grassland type.
