Intensity of Regional Cold Air Processes in Xinjiang during 1961-2023
Utilizing datasets encompassing daily average temperature, minimum temperature, and minimum temperature drop range over 24-hour,48-hour,and 72-hour periods, along with NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data from 105 stations in Xinjiang from 1961 to 2023,this study delves into the variation characteristics of cold air processes of varying intensities in the region.Additionally,it investigates the primary circulation factors influencing the intensity of cold air processes in Xinjiang.Analysis reveals the occurrence of a total of 746 regional cold air processes in Xinjiang over the aforementioned period, comprising 149 moderate intensity events,136 strong occurrences, and 461 instances of cold waves. While an overall decreasing trend is observed in cold air processes in Xinjiang, the proportion of cold wave processes within these events has gradually increased since the 21st century.Nonetheless, the annual average intensity fluctuation of cold wave processes in the region remains insignificant.Key factors contributing to the occurrence of strong cold waves include the presence of high-pressure systems over the Ural Mountains and the Eurasian cold high-pressure system.Notably, changes in the Ural blocking high and Eurasian cold high exhibit a positive correlation with cold air processes in Xinjiang.
