Analysis and Improvement for Failures of Gear Partial Load Spalling of an Aero-engine Star Gearbox Reduction Drive
Aimed at the fault that the gear partial load spalling during the fatigue testing of an aero-engine star gearbox reduction drive, and from respects such as design, manufacturing and test and so on,we analyzed the cause of the fault. The main causes were identified that unreasonable design of the engine air system and gear tooth modification parameters, and unreasonable design of the fit of the gearbox bearing seat hole was the secondary cause of the fault.By analyzing the mechanism of fault, the failure was removed through corresponding improved measurements including adding a cooling flow path on the outer wall of the gearbox input, adjusting the fit of the gearbox bearing seat hole, and optimizing the gear tooth profile parameters, which was verified by experiment. This research provided a reference for the design and failure analysis of the similar star gearbox reduction drive.
