Influence of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of TC4 Connectors
TC4 titanium alloy special vehicle connectors were prepared using die forging technology, and heat treatments were finished such as annealing, solid solution, and tempering. The effects of heat treatment on the microstructure and ten-sile mechanical properties of TC4 titanium alloy die forged connectors were studied combining metallographic analysis with room temperature tensile test, hardness test and so on.The results showed that after annealing treatment of sample pieces, the microstructure of the sample was α+secondary α+residual β phases, which belonged to the four types of annealed mi-crostructure specified in the GJB 2744A-2007 Specification for Aerospace Titanium and Titanium Alloy Forgings standard. The alloy material had low tensile strength but high toughness, and the connector could withstand a tensile force of 210 kN.Adopted annealing+solid solution+tempering treatment, the microstructure was α-martensite phases and α'-martensite phases. The material had the highest tensile strength but low toughness, and the connector could withstand a tensile force of 180 kN.Adopted annealing and tempering treatment process, the microstructure was composed of primary α phase,second-ary α phase, and residual β phase, which was a type 2 annealed microstructure specified in the GJB 2744A-2007 standard. The material had medium tensile strength and toughness, and the connector could withstand a tensile strength exceeding 300 kN,which met the design requirements.
