This paper analyzes why Shen Quan gained the favor of Emperor Kangxi through his inscriptions, and sorts out two sets of books in which Shen Quan contributed his writings together with other artists. One set is Lan Shen's book The Painting of Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake and Paintings and poetry composed by Yan Shengsun and Other Artists. The inscription contributors are mainly Shen Quan's peer officials in Beijing. The content of the inscriptions is unique to literati. The other set is Shen Hao's painting collection Ink Plum in which Shen Quan and his friends shared their inscriptions which reflects the rise of the female intellectual group since the late Ming Dynasty,as well as the patriotic sentiment of the remnants of the Ming Dynasty, which is opposite to Shen Quan's court image. The two opposite images learned from Shen Quan's inscriptions can help understand Shen Quan's historical image.
