"Spatial Introspection and Restoration"Strategies in Smart Renewal of Modern Cities:An In-depth Discussion of the"High Building-demolishing"Event in the Core City Area of Shaoxing,Zhejiang
Cities have different demands in their construction process at different stages.How to address the problems left over from the previous stage is a key and universal issue in the urban development process,as well as an issue of"smart renewal".The Shaoxing government has attempted to restore and extend the historical pattern through the"high building-demolishing"project,which has sparked extensive discussions.Based on historical maps,images and literature,natural landscape and waterbodies are concluded as the traditional characteristic of Shaoxing.Through analyzing the urban spatial contradictions of the present and drawing on several"smart renewal"cases from other cities,renewal strategies are proposed based on the traditional spatial characteristics of Shaoxing:reviving the waterways,ascending a height and reshaping the city's diverse and multi-scale living spaces.
