Beyond Separation and Connection:Design Exploration of Two Township Pedestrian Bridges
The original intention of a bridge is to connect two places,altering the spatial structure of the place and the trajectory of people's actions.As a form of existence,bridges become part of the built environment,and their location and form turn into meaningful new landscapes.As a spatial node where people meet,a bridge can also surpass its most basic functions and become a local public space.This article commences with Georg Simmel's discussion on the relationship between bridges and doors,and borrows Zimmer's discussion of the three different functions of bridges:"connecting the two","implementing the intention",and"intuitively visible"to describe the two new pedestrian bridges(Xiaohe Bridge and Dahe Bridge)in Zhongyi Township,Shizhu County,Chongqing.Nowadays,they have become part of daily life and significant public spaces in the town.
