On January 20,2024,the"Chinese Vernacular Architecture:Research Exhibition on Traditional Residential Forms"was successfully held in Lizhuang,Sichuan.At this event,Huazhong University of Science and Technology showcased its forty years research on Wuling Ganlan,which included sections like"Salute to Tradition","Research Progress on Wuling Ganlan",and"Future Development Trends".Under this opportunity,this article attempts to look back on several important stages of vernacular architectural research in Huazhong University of Science and Technology,and sort out the research progress over the past 40 years,ranging from classical historical theory to field-based empirical research,in-depth and systematic investigation of construction techniques,as well as contemporary rural practice.
