Local Construction Organization and Practice of Modern Chinese University Campus:A Study on the Contracts and Construction Records of the Former Shipai Campus of National Sun Yat-sen University
The Shipai Campus of National Sun Yat-sen University,a large-scale project that was designed and built entirely by Chinese architects and contractors in the 1930s,serves as a vivid example for examining local architectural practices in modern China. This paper attempts to trace back the group portrait on the construction site.Using the project contracts and records as research materials, the roles and interactions of the university, architects, contractors, and other participants in the campus construction process are analyzed.Through this research, the organizational network of construction, which has played a key role in supporting the physical form of the architectural heritage,is clarified.
