Study on the Pattern and Type of Traditional Town Settlement Landscape from the Perspective of Regional Correlation:A Case Study of the Historic Corridor Area from Jingzhou to Xiangyang
As a network node of regional historic environment and a communication medium between urban and rural areas, traditional towns exhibit significant regional correlation and landscape integrity in their settlement forms. In light of the lack of regional perspectives and systematic concepts in the conservation of settlement heritages, this study, shifting from individual settlements to geographic units, and from key elements to overall order, proposes a regional and comprehensive viewpoint on settlement heritage and a structural correlation analysis approach that is region-based,takes into account the overall situation, and considers both internal and external factors.Subsequently,by regarding the town settlements and their ambient environment as an interactive landscape assemblage, four typical settlement landscape systems of towns and their typified characteristics in the Jingxiang historic corridor area are unveiled from the perspective of regional correlation. These include the markets formed by the river embankment and polder field, the markets formed by the ancient pass, the markets formed by the ancient port, and the market formed by the old road node.It could provide a scientific foundation and a logical framework for the precise conservation and individualized development of settlement landscape heritages.
