The Controversy of Symbolism in Classical Psychoanalysis:A Restatement based on a Structural Perspective
The problem of symbols has occupied an important position in the theoretical development of classical psychoanalysis.Review of the history shows that the split within early psychoanalysis was to some extent related to the attitude toward symbolism. And from a structural perspective, the structure of symbols is divided into three parts, namely symbol, symbolized, and the relationship between them. The division of the structure of symbols allows for a theoretical unification of the classical psychoanalytic debate on symbolism and a further study of the clinical significance of symbolism.
