On the Cultural Mind of Wang Yangming's"Four Sentences Teaching"in the Horizon Cultivation of Chinese Xin
Sijujiao(The doctrine of Four Sentences)is a summary and generalization of Wang Yangming's thoughts in his later years,which is the essence of Yangming's Xinxue and the key to the development of post-Yangming's Xinxue,Thus stimulating multidisci-plinary studies in philosophy,pedagogy,ethics,history,etc.,but there is a lack of psychological research.From the horizon of psychol-ogy,it can be seen that Sijujiao contains rich Chinese cultural mentalities,that is,Chinese Xin and the ways to cultivate Chinese Xin.The concept of"Xin's noumenon is without goodness or disgust"is a concentrated expression of The theory of goodness in human na-ture of Chinese culture,especially Confucian culture,which embodies the idea of equality based on the supreme virtue or ultimate good-ness,the idea that all people can become saints,and the cognitive approach of viewing things by"Dao"or"Li";The phrase of"kind-ness and malice are produced by consciousness'function"expresses the unification of Xin and Yi(consciousness),containing moral consciousness,the consciousness and sense of social responsibility and mission,patriotism,and other Chinese Xin(psychological charac-teristics of Chinese culture)."Knowing what is good or evil is Liangzhi(conscience)"clarifies that Liangzhi(conscience)has moral judgment and practical power,which contains Chinese Xin such as conscience,self-restraint,selfless and abstinence,as well as ways of cultivating Chinese Xin such as insight and gradual realization enlightenment.The principle of"doing good and eliminating evil is Gewu(the study of things)"emphasizes the unity of epistemology and practical theory,which contains the Chinese mind such as the theory of innate goodness and Renxin(benevolence),as well as two ways of cultivating Chianese Xin:Weixue(learning)and Weidao(appercep-tion of Dao).According to Sijujiao,Chinese Xin can be cultivated by Ming-xin-jian-xing(awaking Xin and seeing nature),Lizhi(determination,establishing ambition),and Shi-shang-mo(practical experience),etc.
