In the era of the digital economy,digital transformation is an endogenous requirement for firms to achieve high-quality economic development,which necessitates guidance and support from the government.This study aims to analyze and test the impact of a cordial and clean government-business relationship on firms'digital transformation.Using firm-year observation data from Chinese A-share listed firms in traditional industries between 2016 and 2020,the results demonstrate that a cordial and clean government-business relationship significantly influences firms'digital transformation,with a stronger effect observed in non-state firms.Mechanism tests reveal that the cordial and clean government-business relationship promotes firms'digital transformation through market orientation and resource supply.Notably,the cordial relationship,rather than the clean relationship,between gov-ernment and business drives firms'digital transformation.Furthermore,this study finds that the cordial and clean government-busi-ness relationship mitigates the impact of traditional political connections.Overall,this study contributes to the literature on the cor-dial and clean government-business relationship and digital transformation,while also providing important policy implications for governments seeking to promote digital economic development and firms'digital transformation.
