Parental values play a crucial role in child development and national competitiveness, particularly in the rapidly transforming Chinese society characterized by marketization.Using data from the World Values Survey(2001-2018),this study examines the impact of provincial marketization levels on parental values across different socioeconomic status(SES)groups in Chi-na.The findings reveal that residents in highly marketized provinces and those with higher SES tend to embrace democratic parental values. However,as marketization progresses,higher-SES groups exhibit a notable shift toward authoritarian parental values,ac-companied by a decline in democratic and authoritative parenting styles. This study reveals that the evolution of Chinese parental values is influenced by a combination of modernization, traditional culture, and state policies, reflecting a unique blend of modern and traditional elements in China's trajectory of modernization.
