The view that Western culture is primarily focused on visual elements, known as"Ocularcentrism",is a misconcep-tion.The spatial turn in Western poetic culture is based on the premise that traditional Western poetic culture possesses a temporal characteristic, which is inherently linked to the traditional Western"Logos language view".The Logos concept encompasses Oratio(speech)and Ratio(reason),and this view influences Western poetics in two significant ways:emphasizing the perceptual aesthet-ic qualities of language phonology and highlighting the rational origin and cognitive function of literature. As phonology exists in time and rational logic relies on temporal order, the Western poetic cultural tradition exhibits a tendency towards temporalization. This tendency is evident in the emphasis on the"boundaries of poetry and painting",the rejection of visual aesthetics, the analogy be-tween poetry and music, and the pursuit of a"musical realm"in poetry.Understanding these aspects not only facilitates the mutual appreciation of Chinese and Western poetic cultures and civilizations, but also assists in comprehending the spatiotemporality tenden-cy in contemporary intermedial art and culture theories.
