Wang Min,courtesy name Jiyan,is a famous scholar in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.At the same time,he is also a devout Buddhist believer.He once wrote The Biography of Gao Zuo in memory of Bo Shi limi,a monk known as"Gao Zuo",traveling to China from the western region.There is a biography of Wang Min in The Book of Jin which is attached to The Biography of Wang Dao in Volume 65.However,the content recorded in the historical books only refers to the outline of his life,and the stories related Wang Min are also controversial,which needs to be clarified.As for The Biography of Gao Zuo,it is contained in the catalogue of historical records such as the art and culture annals of The Supplement of the Book of Jin and Literary Record by Ding Guojun of the Qing Dynasty,but the author is not indicated.The author's information of The Biography of Gao Zuo is first seen in the correspondence between Shi Huijiao and Wang Manying.In the correspondence,The Biography of Gao Zuo follows the path of"personal biography-catalogue of Buddhist scriptures-multiple biographies",finally included in The Biography of Eminent Monks,which provides an indispensable historical basis for the study of Buddhism in the Eastern and Western Jin Dynasties.
