The Liang Dynasty Loss of Hanzhong in 504 and the Adjustment of Liangzhou Administrative Region
Liang dynasty Xiahou Daoqian raised an army and rebelled, leading the Northern Wei dynasty to the south in 504.Liang dynasty lost thousands of miles of land, but some areas were still under Liang dynasty control. To cope with the military pressure from the Northern Wei,Xiao Yan shifted the rule of the state, reset Liangzhou(梁州),and defined the state's belongings. The Liang army recovered Hanzhong county and re-established Liangzhou with Nanzheng in 535.The political and geographical pattern of Liangzhou once saw the co-existence of East Liangzhou(东梁州),South Liangzhou(南梁州)and North Liangzhou(北梁州).During the period of Xiao Ji's assassination of Shu,North Liangzhou and East Liangzhou failed to integrate with Yizhou(益州)in terms of military and political affairs, and were instead subject to the control of Jingzhou(荆州).At the end of the Liang Dynasty, when the Western Wei Dynasty went south,Liangzhou fell into oblivion, and the Liangzhou system of the Southern Dynasty no longer existed. The several changes in the political district of Liangzhou reflected the strategic arrangement and adjustment of the central government of Liang dynasty for the western line of the regime, and was also a reflection of the evolution of the relationship between Liangzhou and Yizhou since the Han and Wei dynasties.
