Effects of Salicylic Acid on Membrane Lipid Peroxidation in Purple Majesty (Pennisetum glaucum) Seedlings under Drought, High Temperature or the Dual Stress
The effects of salicylic acid (SA) on membrane lipid peroxidization in Purple Majesty (Pennisetum glaucum) seedling leaves were studied under drought or high temperature or under the dual-stress conditions. The results showed that the relative conductivity and MDA content in the seedling leaves were increased under drought, high temperature and the dual-stress conditions while SOD,POD,CAT and APX activity declined, and that SA pretreatments could decrease the relative conductivity and MDA content in the seedling leaves and increase the activity of SOD and other defense enzymes under the above stress conditions. These results thus indicated that SA increased the resistance of Purple Majesty plants to drought, high temperature or dual stresses by inducing its resistance to membrane lipid peroxidation.
