Recent advances in clinical research on coronary vulnerable plaque
Vulnerable plaques in the coronary arteries are prone to rupture, leading to thrombotic obstruction of the coronary artery, which is a significant pathogenic mechanism of major adverse cardiovascular events.Vulnerable plaques can manifest as two main phenotypes:plaque rupture and plaque erosion, each having distinct clinical characteristics and treatment strategies.Patients with plaque erosion tend to have smaller myocardial infarct size and better prognosis. The integration of multi-modality intravascular imaging techniques helps in assessing plaque instability, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy. This article provides a comprehensive review of the clinical research advancements in vulnerable plaques in recent years.
