Progress of application of echocardiography in assessment of left atrial fibrosis in patients with atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in adults. The pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation has not been fully elucidated.Left atrial structural remodeling and myocardial fibrosis are inducing and sustaining factors for atrial fibrillation.Left atrial fibrosis can cause uneven and slow electrical conduction of myocardial cells in the left atrium and reduce elasticity of the left atrium. This can increase the occurrence of permanent atrial fibrillation and recurrence rate after catheter ablation. Therefore, early, rapid and accurate assessment of the degree of left atrial fibrosis in patients with atrial fibrillation plays an important role in the decision-making of treatment and prediction of prognosis.Numerous studies have shown that echocardiography has some clinical value in the assessment of left atrial fibrosis in patients with atrial fibrillation. This article aims to review the research progress in this field.
