Effectiveness of Parental Health Literacy Interventions—Based on Meta-analysis
Parental health literacy popularization and improvement is an important component of the child health cause, and specific actions rely on high-quality evidence. This study used meta-analysis to evaluate existing research on parental health literacy interventions. The results found that the interventions available were able to support parents in improving health literacy, but there was heterogeneity in the effectiveness of the interventions across studies, with the age group of the child, the country region, the intervention period and the content of the intervention being the main factors contributing to the heterogeneity, while the specific form of the intervention did not play a significant role. The existing interventions had insufficient focus on the mental health domain, rural and low socio-economic status parents, and the quality of research could be improved. It is suggested that intervention programs in the mental health field may not be tightly tied to deterministic rules, the interventions in low socio-economic status families could train community members, and the intervention programs need to consider objective conditions and adult learning patterns.
