The Educational Phenomenology in Confucianism of Life:Contemporary Transformation of the Confucian Philosophy of Education
Educational phenomenology is a phenomenological reflection on education.According to the phenomenological ideas of life in Life Confucianism, life is education.Life refers to the pre-subjective exist-ence,in response to the question of"how is living possible".In this sense, the educational activity is a form of living, while from the perspective that the purpose of education is to achieve maturity, life as being is noth-ing but education. To achieve maturity is to answer the question how subjectivity is possible.According to the essence of life, namely,to live and to live a meaningful life, living gives birth to the subject, and then the subject chooses the way of living. Therefore, both the educator and the educated are educational subjects gen-erated in process of living a meaningful life, and both exert their educational subjectivity during the process. However, while the educational phenomenology of"to live"is other oriented,in that the educated is educat-ed by others and the educator is educating others, the educational phenomenology of"to live a meaningful life"is essentially"self-education",in that the subject chooses out of free will,or out of the freedom of ed-ucation.The realization of this free will means the right to education. The essence of the right to education is the right to self-education,that is,the freedom of the subject to live a meaningful life.
