摘要
海明威的早期代表作的主题是对爱情、人与自然的关系以及生命意义和死亡的初步探索，其中期代表作的主题涉及爱情和战争，实质上是对存在的意义和爱情的实质的追问，其后期代表作是对爱的意义的探索和对纯真之爱的渴求，而《老人与海》抛弃了战争和爱情的具象，揭示了人类的欲望是他者的欲望和探索了人类存在的责任和其终极价值。海明威的代表作深沉含蓄但超越时空，其文学价值是对多元人生的深刻解读和揭示了欲望和存在的丰厚底蕴。
Abstract
Ernest Hemingway's early representative works Up in Michigan,Out of Season and My Old Man are preliminary explo-ration into love,the relation between man and nature as well as the meaning of life and death.His masterpieces of the middle peri-od include The Sun Also Rises,A Farewell to Arms,For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Snows of Kilimanjaro,whose themes are seemingly love and war,but in fact the inquiry into the nature of love and the value of human existence.His later masterpiece Across the River and Into the Trees aims to reveal the significance of love and the desire for true love,while The Old Man and the Sea avoids concrete love and war but explores human desires as the desire of the other as well as responsibility and the ultimate val-ue of human existence.The literary significance of Hemingway's representative works,which have rich implications and transcend time,is an interpretation of the plurality of life and an exposure of the rich implications of human desires and existence.
