Exploration and Growth in the Early Founding Period of Shenbao Through Its Coverage of the Yang Yuelou Case
Shen Bao,as one of the earliest Chinese newspapers founded locally,emerged under the influence of Western and took root in Chinese society.It was shaped by a dual impact of traditional Chinese cultural concepts and Western modern journalistic ideals.This paper aims to explore the early state and transformations of Shen Bao,utilizing the Yang Yuelou incident that occurred at its inception.By combining the reports on the Yang Yuelou case with the newspaper's own growth,the study delves into aspects such as the newspaper's writing style,cultural orientation,and news reporting.Through this analysis,it discusses the initial status and changes of Shen Bao at its founding and further examines how this early modern media outlet,in interaction with society,shaped its self-image and engaged in public affairs.
