The Consciousness of Indigenization and Knowledge Production in Chinese Sociologists
Indigenization is a critical issue in Chinese sociology.Analysis of the survey dataset from ICSVS2022 reveals that over 60%of sociologists hold a positive view of indigenization.Sociologists with higher academic reputations tend to be more receptive and inclusive towards indigenization, while those with transnational solid academic capital emphasize the compatibility of social science concepts and methodologies.Classical theorists are the most recognized among Chinese sociologists, followed by European and North American sociologists. However, sociologists with overseas doctoral training exhibit less familiarity with Chinese theorists.Academic reputation and power have a significant positive impact on the quantity and quality of papers in Chinese. At the same time, transnational capital plays a more prominent role in publishing articles in English.Notably, the consciousness of indigenization positively influences the publication of English papers. These findings highlight the varying perspectives on indigenization among sociologists, their preference for classical theories, and the presence of a"multiple dichotomy"in knowledge practices.Recognizing the influence of indigenization consciousness on academic production is crucial, and exploring new internal motivations is necessary to enhance the ecological niche of sociology in academic discourse construction.
