The central governments and society have been very concerned to establish a unified cultural system and social orders,in order to maintain the cohesion and common behavioral norms.The Chinese language and the classics of traditional Chinese culture have been the main carrier to establish political and cultural identity in border areas.The period of the Republic of China(1912-1949)was the important transition stage of China from a traditional empire to a modern"nation-state".This paper focuses on the educational and language policies practiced in border regions during this period.The main target of these policies had been to unified the national language and school education systems.
