Research on the Writing of Australian Chinese Identity in the Gold Rush Era——The Systematic Consideration of Poison of Polygamy and Goldfield
Poison of Polygamy and Goldfield are both based on the narrative context of Chinese going to Australia for gold.Although there is a difference of more than one hundred years between the two no-vels in terms of writing theme and narrative style, the Chinese in the two texts appears as the vilified im-age of"the other",and both make their own references to the cultural confidence and identity of the Chi-nese.Under the framework of systematic thought, this paper compares the differences and dynamic devel-opment of the construction of Chinese subject identity between the two texts, and reveals that the author of Poison of Polygamy focuses on the construction of ethnic nationalism of Chinese people. In the context of the era of the community of human destiny, the latter aims to write ethical demands beyond the differ-ences of race, culture and ideology, and inject the motive factors of cultural confidence into the construc-tion of overseas Chinese identity.
